About Vibrant Dog
Prior to starting Vibrant Dog in 2018, Joshua Whitley spent 15 years in the computer industry solving technical problems for small businesses and corporate entities. And this on-the-go lifestyle in the great city of Chicago prevented him from getting a dog (he did have much-loved cats during these years).
In 2008, he accepted a job offer with Symantec, and relocated to Eugene, Oregon. One of the reasons for the relocation was so that he would have space to keep a dog.
In 2009, that dream became a reality with the acquisition of purebred male Rottweiler puppy named Chico. A second rescued female Rottweiler named Gidget joined the pack in 2012.
Then, in 2014, tragedy struck.
At the age of 5 years, Chico became afflicted with debilitating arthritis to the point of yelping in pain and struggling with mobility. Josh then used the research skills acquired in the Information Technology space to address the health issues of his dog.
A portion of this included CBD from plants grown under the umbrella of the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP), predating federal hemp legalization.
After investigating, he learned that Chico had a serious food sensitivity. Josh assembled a program of diet, exercise, and supplements which arrested his dog’s arthritis.
Chico regained full mobility and ran pain-free until crossing the Rainbow Bridge from natural causes at the age of 10.
Over the years, Josh has developed a holistic approach to canine health that integrates diet, nutrition, exercise, and, as warranted, symptom management with CBD oil.
In founding Vibrant Dog, Josh’s passion and the company’s mission is to enable your dogs to enjoy the most vibrant life possible!
Josh is accredited as a Certified Canine Nutritionist through the Companion Animal Sciences Institute. He received his B.S. in Applied Science in Information Systems Technology from Southern Illinois University and worked for 15 years in IT.
A life-learner, he now applies his problem-solving skills to improving the quality of life for dogs. He currently trains his Rottweiler, Tito Puente, with McKenzie River Schutzhund.
